Cart Attentant

The other day I was walking to a local grocery store and in the background I heard someone whistling. It took me a few seconds but found who it was. It was a guy smiling and happily doing his job.  He was the infamous and always overlooked cart returner. Before I knew it, we were within 10 feet of each other and by just watching him I had a smile on my face. I did not intend to speak but he spoke to me first and the conversation went like this:

Him: Are you having a good day, Sir?
Me: Well, right now because I am on lunch and hungry.
Him: Do you want to know why I am whistling today?
Me: Sure.
Him: People always take the carts out to their car rain or shine and I have to go get them rain or shine. I always do my job right but today God decided that His plants did not need watering. I am happy that I can get my job done faster in the sunshine. There is a time for everything, rain or shine.

I was speechless. I could not help but admire his dedication for his job and recognizing that God also controls the weather. I couldn't help but be humbled and think about these verses.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Ecclesiastes 3. 1-8

Sometimes I get so caught up with what I want to do or what I think I should do. But God wants us to rely on Him more-so than our selves. I want to be more focused on what God has for me and my family than what is on my agenda.

These verses make me realize that there many seasons in life. What season are you in?
